Powering Progress, Protecting the Future

WIND & SOLAR ENERGY: RELIABLE, RENEWABLE, AFFORDABLE

The Problem:
Guyana faced 123+ blackouts in 2024

  • GPL’s inefficiencies drive electricity costs up to $30,000/month for families on minimum wage.

  • GPL continues to hinder progress by causing an increase in manufacturing costs, burdening citizens with frequent blackouts and high costs of electricity while keeping us dependent on imported fossil fuels.

WIN’s Solution:
Launch the National Wind & Solar Energy Project to:

  • Cut electricity costs by 70%

  • End blackouts permanently across country

  • Wind and Solar Energy Project which will complement with sustainable, people-centred solutions.

  • Supplement the national grid alongside gas-to-shore

  • Align with UN Sustainable Development Goal 7

REVISED OIL & GAS FRAMEWORK

Building Trust in Our Most Profitable Sector

Key Actions:

  • Renegotiate Exxon’s 2016 contract for fairer terms

  • Publish all extractive contracts in a public, searchable portal

  • Mandate zero routine flaring unless explicitly justified

  • Cap Natural Resource Fund withdrawals

Key commitments

  • Certified coconut water factory & value-added products.

  • Demo vertical farms using hydroponics for high-value crops.

  • Smart digitised crop monitoring.

  • Identify new lands for farming across all 10 regions.

  • Provide 25 hectares per registered co-op.

  • Start-up grants up to $5M + access to low-interest loans.

Key Commitments & Strategic Actions

  1. Advance Guyana’s Low Carbon Strategy

Building on the legacy of LCDS 2030, WIN will deepen our use of REDD+ carbon credits, biodiversity valuation, and performance-based ecosystem finance to channel nature-based revenue into sustainable development.

  2. Protect & Expand Forests & Biodiversity
Increase protected areas beyond 30% of national land by 2030 and develop biodiversity credits that reward conservation efforts.

  3. Promote Renewable Energy & Green Jobs
Implement national broadband- and solar-powered EV infrastructure tied to training opportunities, especially for youth and women, to transition into clean energy careers.

  4. Enable Sustainable Public Services
Invest in low-emission infrastructure for clean water, energy-efficient transport, and climate-smart rural services, especially in hinterland and underserved regions.

Governance & Sustainable Resource Management

Transparent, inclusive, and planet-respecting management of our natural wealth

  • We will make open, searchable formats with fiscal terms visible to citizens.

  • We will involve them in natural resource planning, especially biodiversity and climate finance decisions.

  • There will be a zero routine flaring and strong Environmental & Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) for all projects.
